Development Update

So, it's been about three months since my last update.

These past three months have flown by, and quite a few good things have happened during that time. I've had my share of motivation highs and lows, but today feels like a good day to sit down and write about the project's progress.

Most of my time has been spent developing the level transition system. It's a major feature for the game and something I wanted to get right before moving forward with larger-scale content production.

Another big system I've worked on is the world map. It's still very barebones at the moment, but it already supports the core functionality I need and gives me a solid foundation to build upon later.

Outside of programming, I've also spent a considerable amount of time working on the game's logo, capsule art, and other marketing assets. To be honest, it's been a bit of a pain. The vision is crystal clear in my head, but translating that vision into something tangible has been much harder than expected. That said, I feel like I'm moving in the right direction and making steady progress.

I also started sharing clips and small pieces of content on social media. The reception has been modest but encouraging. I received some great feedback regarding features that could be improved, and I'll definitely be addressing those suggestions as development continues.

Overall, things are back on track.

Right now, I'm focused on implementing the save system and handling persistent game objects throughout the world. I'm getting very close to a point where all the major foundational systems will be in place and I'll finally have everything I need to start producing the actual content of the game.

What's Left Before Production

Here's what's still missing before I can officially say I'm entering full production mode:

  • An audio manager capable of controlling the different audio channels (music, sound effects, ambience, UI, etc.).
  • A clear structure for persistent objects and save data, since the game will contain a large number of world elements that need to be tracked.
  • Additional visual assets for marketing and promotion.

Once those pieces are complete, my next goal is creating a trailer and getting the Steam page online.

After that, the real fun begins.

That pretty much sums up the current state of the project.

As for my energy and morale, I'd rate them around 7/10. There have definitely been better days, but I'm feeling optimistic and reasonably motivated to keep pushing forward. Even though I've probably thought about dropping the project twenty times over the last three months, I'm still here, still building, and still excited to see where it goes.

Cheers!
